mg/mL = vial amount (mg) ÷ diluent volume (mL)

5 mg in 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL

Micrograms per unit

mcg/unit = (mg/mL × 1000) ÷ units per mL

2.5 mg/mL on a U-100 syringe = 25 mcg per unit

Draw volume

mL = target amount (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)

250 mcg at 2.5 mg/mL = 0.1 mL

Draws per vial

draws = diluent volume (mL) ÷ draw volume (mL)

2 mL ÷ 0.1 mL = 20 draws

Common questions

  • What is the peptide reconstitution formula?

    Concentration (mg/mL) = vial amount in mg ÷ diluent volume in mL. To find a draw volume: volume (mL) = target amount in mg ÷ concentration in mg/mL.

  • How many units are in 1 mL on an insulin syringe?

    A standard U-100 insulin syringe has 100 units per millilitre, so 1 unit equals 0.01 mL. A U-40 syringe has 40 units per millilitre.

  • Which diluent is used for lyophilized research material?

    Bacteriostatic water is the common diluent for laboratory handling because the benzyl alcohol content limits microbial growth in a multi-draw vial. Follow the diluent and storage conditions specified in your laboratory SOP.

  • Does dissolving the material change the total volume?

    For the milligram quantities used in typical laboratory vials the displaced volume is negligible, so the diluent volume is treated as the final volume.
